The END of the Swing Era?

NO not the Swing Era!

Possibly my favorite type of music after Emo and Pierce the Veil is Swing Music. Swing Music makes me feel truly happy inside. "Well, until the song is over at least" and can even be a sanctuary for me during bad times. But, the question I ask is why has the music stopped? "Party's over guys," a fellow blogger has written a very good response to my question.

Thanks to JUstTheSwing"The swing era was killed by a number of factors, World War 2 being one of them. Although swing music was popular among the sailors and soldiers off at war, the war drafted many of the band members forcing the remainder of the band to hire unskilled performers. Glenn Miller broke up his band and joined the Army Air Corpse (which later split from the Army to become the Air Force) where Glenn Miller was lost. Fuel rationing also hurt swing bands - band tours became next to impossible.
Another factor can be blamed on the Musicians Union which went on strike on August 1, 1942. No agreement was made until September of 1943 when Decca Records made an agreement. Blue Note followed in November, and other record labels later that year. However, most swing bands were signed to Columbia and Victor Records. These two record labels would not settle until November 1944, a full 27 months; that's over 2 years in which no swing bands from these two labels were published.
However, singers were not part of the Musicians Union, and thus they were not on strike and could be recorded. The result of this was that singers became popular and the bands, particularly swing bands, diminished in status.
Additional factor was a cabaret tax in 1941 causing clubs to pay 30% of their ticket sales in taxes. This meant that bands that were hired by the clubs had to be smaller and cheaper, something swing bands - especially swing jazz big bands - could not easily adjusted to.
A new jazz sound, Bebop, began to grow in popularity as did the inexpensive rhythm & blues bands.
Finally, with the end of the what became known as World War 2 and of what became known as the Great Depression, people did not want to be reminded of either of them. Swing, which became popular during the depression and was so popular when the war started, became a reminder of those bad years. With the bad memories and the bad emotions that swing music brought back to mind, people simply stopped listening.
With that the Swing Era was dead.
Very soon, partner dancing in general would be dead, too. East coast swing, the dance that replaced Lindy Hop at the end of the Swing Era, as well as dances like the Waltz, Foxtrot, and others would die off when in the early 1960s, Chubby Checker's "The Twist" killed partner dancing."-JUstTheSwing

Class work in the summer!

Why do parents put us through this?

Well my day was fun, all I did for the first two hours of my hopeless existence was a boring summer school "Prep Class" but was the teacher happy with just giving us a nice easy workbook page well I can answer that NO! she wasn't she decided for our last Essay we were going to do the worst possible thing as a sort of "Fuck You" assignment.  So I sat in that class for 2 hours and wrote "The best essay in the class I might add".  So I just wanted to share how bad my essay was with you, here it is!

Time Management
Well I know I’m going to sound counter productive but study skills don’t work for me all they do is hold me up maybe if there was one thing I needed to work on because I’m a very forgetful person is time management I can identify things that I could do a lot better if I could manage my time well. This skill has never been easy for me mostly because the sure amount of stuff I do I’ve tried planners I just can’t seem to write anything worth anything in them.
Time management I found out was not just having planners and neat organized workbooks it was about key leadership functions like Planning, Organizing, Directing, and controlling. Let’s talk about some strategies for Time Management. One Planning short-range planning is the best way for you to get through the week which may involve writing in a notebook about the next day and the previous one or planning every hour of your next day but also do not become over obsessive with writing everything down because this will just stress you out more. Organization one of the most “important parts of Time Management.”-Douglas McGregor Organize your study place get an Organization chart or buy a label machine so you can label everything in your bag and house so you know right where everything is. This helps to shorten the time lost between finding supplies. Directing your life “taking a new direction”-POSEC method if you are doing your organization on what someone like your mom or dad tells you tell them you’d like to try to find your own way to study and Manage Time. Controlling Like directing this is taking control of your life telling other peoples what to do when you do group projects being spontaneous because life should not be all work no play.
I will try and use these strategies in my everyday life like organization I have a labeler so ill go home and label everything all the office supplies doors and cabinets for other equipment and then ill go buy another student planner. The next strategy i'll use is directing i'll direct my student group in class and find out who has better working efforts and who will help me out more.
I will use these strategies not only in school life but in my regular life for organizing my room, House, Life, and Blog and most of all my brain. When I use these strategies it will make me a more productive member of class and life and help me through the, I don’t know what the hell I’m doing moments.
I would like to achieve my goal of being able to Time Manage and do it effectively and I will achieve my goal by following the steps above. The four skills I will use are the above and my goal is to become self-reliant and stop depending on my teachers to update homework on websites and tell me my assignments.

Welcome to my LIFE.

Welcome to my LIFE

Welcome to my blog where I talk about my very normal, "Yet Strange" life and experiences which I will share with you through a mix of Video Blogs, "Vlogs," and Text Blog postal. Let's start off with my crazy middle school years!!  Ahhh....the good old days when teachers taught and knew what the hell they were doing.  First, the crazy change---no not that one "eek" the transition to middle school from fifth grade.  You know how parents say first impressions mean everything, well they do. This is a sad but true truth. Since I was new to the school district -- "South Pasadena Unified School District"  -- I was the one everyone made fun of.  When they say bullied, in the dictionary, I'm the picture next to it.   All I got was shit from these assholes.  Everyone was already in their own refined social groups and well sorry to say for me perfectly happy beating up the little guy.  All I got was grief. Then I started hanging out with maybe the saddest wannabe cool kids group ever and the worst part was I fit right in until we started to play "Basketball" dun dun duh ... . Then it all changed.  I was suddenly a stripper and a water girl.  I mean these are the exact names that they used for me... Their once cool "lame" friend was suddenly thrown out, unwanted. I didn't like this one bit, so I told on them like the little bitch I was.  Once again, all I heard was crap like "don't be a rat" and others too horrible to repeat here.  That's when I started to get the angry messages on my Xbox account; it started with just a "FUCK YOU" here or there, but gradually got more aggressive, all the way to in these exact words "Retard Fucking liar RSP student." Now from then on this fucked with my head; it changed my life maybe forever because to this day all I can think about is how I look, how I talk, how I write, and it definitely stops me from ever telling on someone.  I really want to, but this experience just rocked my world and changed my perception. Next, seventh grade. By then I was not so much a loner and had managed to make it out of Sixth Grade alive so i thought what the hell things will get easier. ":)" Well, honey, I'm sorry to say they don't.  The ever lasting cycle of life just gives you one more "bitch slap" to the face.   This is the time when the popular social groups grow from small clubs into major corporations, if you get what I mean. The do the "trimming of the fat technique" literally when before everyone who was cool to them "People with Yugioh cards" were allowed it was now some high ranking social status to look paper thin and have anorexic tendencies. Well, I wasn't in this group "once again."  I was not over weight by any means, but I was also not the "sexually desired" paper thin guy. Yet, I was not like the fat kids that teased me in sixth grade which was once again a "very good thing"---or so I thought.
Kitty
Well, then it hit me..."LOVE"....nope.....not for a girl, not for a guy, but for a CAT! My most loved friend Sir William Tigger Shakespeare, a beautiful Red Tabby with green eyes.  Once again a life changing moment.   I had a new meaning to life. A new companion.  A new cat.  It was love at first sight! Well, this was also when my addiction started...not with Crack, not with Marijuana,
but with Amazing Phil "Also a Kitty"
Also a kitty
This is where my 7th grade year turns into the worst possible "SHIT TORNADO" Eighth grade year  anyone on the face of the Earth could have.  It all starts with a little thing my school likes to call "student counseling" or AKA "tell your stories to a friend and hope they don't rat you out." Well, this happened to me.  I trusted my friendly "kid counselor," and they told my secret to everyone.  And while it wasn't terribly "Top Secret," it still hurt my feelings.   Well, I got through that so now on to High School!  Hopefully, this year will be better and a fresh start.  A new beginning and maybe a new social group...who knows.
Thanks for listening and have a great day,
Jared Smith
